Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and [Company legal name] ("we", "us"), which operates Velvet Chapters at velvetchapters.co and in our mobile apps (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy and Content Policy.

1. Who can use the Service

• You must be at least 18 years old. We ask for your date of birth before you start, and we close accounts we believe belong to anyone under 18.
• You are responsible for keeping your login secure and for activity on your account.
• You may not use the Service where doing so is against the law.

2. AI-generated content

Characters in Velvet Chapters are AI, not real people. Their messages, and some story passages that respond to your chats, are generated by artificial intelligence. AI output can be inaccurate, inconsistent or unexpected. It is fiction for entertainment and is not advice of any kind (medical, legal, financial, relationship or otherwise). See our AI disclosure.

If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, please contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988 in the US) or your local emergency number. A character cannot help in an emergency.

3. Subscriptions and automatic renewal

VIP is a subscription that renews automatically until you cancel. Before you buy, we show the price, the billing period and the renewal terms. Current plans:

• Weekly with trial: $0.99 for the first 7 days, then $7.99 per week, charged every week until you cancel.
• Monthly and yearly plans, at the price shown at checkout, renewing each month or year until you cancel.

By subscribing you authorize us (through our payment processor, Stripe, or through Apple or Google if you subscribe in an app) to charge your payment method at the start of each billing period. Prices may include or exclude tax depending on where you live. If we change a subscription price, we will tell you in advance and the new price applies from your next renewal; you can cancel before it takes effect.

We send a reminder by email before a trial converts to a paid subscription, showing the renewal price and date.

How to cancel

• On the web: go to Account → Manage subscription. You can cancel online at any time in a few clicks.
• In the iOS or Android app: cancel in your Apple ID or Google Play subscription settings.

Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid the next charge. When you cancel, you keep VIP access until the end of the period you already paid for. Cancelling a trial before it ends means you will not be charged the weekly price.

4. Refunds

Payments are generally non-refundable, except where the law requires otherwise. If you believe you were charged in error, or you forgot to cancel and have not used the Service since the renewal, contact support@velvetchapters.co within 14 days and we will review it in good faith. Purchases made through Apple or Google are refunded under their policies; please request those refunds from them.

5. Coins

• Coins are a virtual item you can buy or earn and spend to unlock chapters, send messages and replay endings.
• Coins have no cash value, cannot be exchanged for money, transferred, or sold, and are not refundable except where the law requires.
• Coins do not expire while your account is open. Coins are lost if your account is deleted or terminated.
• Content unlocked with coins stays unlocked for your account.

6. Your content and conduct

You keep ownership of what you write. You give us a licence to store, process and display it to run the Service (including sending it to our AI provider to generate replies) and to review it for safety. You agree to follow the Content Policy. Do not try to make characters produce prohibited content, attack or reverse-engineer the Service, scrape it, or use it to harass anyone.

7. Our content

Books, characters, art and the Service are owned by us or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to read and use them for your own entertainment. You may not copy, republish or sell them.

8. Characters you create

On the web you can create your own private characters, including a name, a description and an avatar image you upload. Only you can see and chat with them. You confirm that you have the right to use anything you upload or describe, and that it does not infringe anyone's copyright, trademark, privacy or publicity rights. Do not create characters that depict or imitate real people, minors, or anything the Content Policy prohibits. We screen characters automatically, you can report one, and we may remove a character or its avatar at any time.

9. Copyright complaints (DMCA)

We respect intellectual property rights and respond to notices under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act. If you believe something on the Service infringes your copyright, send a notice to our designated agent with:

• your physical or electronic signature;
• a description of the copyrighted work you say is infringed;
• where the material is on the Service, in enough detail for us to find it;
• your name, address, phone number and email address;
• a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorized by the owner, its agent or the law; and
• a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner.

If material you posted was removed and you believe that was a mistake, you can send a counter-notice to the same address. We terminate the accounts of repeat infringers in appropriate circumstances.

10. Account suspension and termination

You can delete your account at any time in Account. We may suspend or terminate accounts that break these Terms or the Content Policy, that we reasonably believe belong to someone under 18, or that put others or the Service at risk. If we terminate your account without cause, we will refund the unused part of any prepaid subscription. Deleting or terminating an account does not cancel a subscription bought through Apple or Google; cancel it there.

11. Changes to the Service and these Terms

We may change or discontinue features. If we make material changes to these Terms we will notify you (for example by email or in the app) before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service after that means you accept the new Terms.

12. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. To the extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that cannot be waived.
